Jaehyo glanced down at the address held between slim fingers once more to ensure that he was still headed in the correct direction. Though consciously he had yet to determine why he was going to the location in the first place. It’s not like he cared. Perhaps when he was a child - when he was immature, clinging to whatever remainder of hope he had left - but the thought was long abandoned, diminished by his harsh reality. So then why was he here?
The question caused all movement to halt. His legs ceased their onward treading as his eyes searched the perfectly constructed object within his grasp. It was a miracle Jaehyo kept the piece of paper at all. The annual routine of discarding numerous yet equally useless Valentine’s Day cards and love notes from countless admires he required, in his classes, at the café, or otherwise, was nothing above second nature at this point. He gave the scraps of undesired confessions little attention, opting to dispose of the feeble attempts without bothering to even pry them open.
However it was impossible not to take note of this one in particular. The pristine condition of the pearl white envelope caused it to stand out among the swarm of reds and pinks. Instead of being defaced by meaningless hearts and x’s and o’s there wasn’t an imperfection to be found. Nicks, wrinkles, stains, nothing, the letter was completely spotless. Interest mildly peaked; it had become irresistible to learn the contents of the message midway through the day.
But it was far from what he expected. Not that he knew what to expect, still, it surely was not this. Only a select few had knowledge of Jaehyo’s true situation. Of the real reason the boy was in Hydra, of his past, his origins - or more accurately lack of. Over the years whenever he felt the topic approaching Jaehyo had always been able to avoid it. Just another of his unsightly secrets he’d rather evade than deal with.
Or maybe it was simply due to the fact that he grown to accept it. Jaehyo had never given the ordeal the time of day. While most people would be curious to say the least he refused to waste any time on the matter, contrary to what he was currently doing. It was a tad out of character for him to be tempted by such a trivial proposition. There was no logical explanation for Jaehyo to believe one word of the unlikely offer, it was difficult to conceive that someone out there might have a lead.
Though on the other hand what if there was a hint of truth to the anonymous tip, a possibility that he might finally become one step closer. Would Jaehyo be willing to let this opportunity escape him like so many others had? Sliding the letter into the security of the snug back pocket of his jeans, Jaehyo continued to the said meeting place. No, guess not.
